Aiming for Stronger Fundamentals and Growth

As the Citizen Group celebrated its 80th anniversary last year, we set the Group vision in our midterm business plan as “Be a corporate group that creates new value and achieves real growth based on our miniaturization and precision technology and trustworthy quality”. Fiscal 2010 was the first year of the plan and during this year we focused on restructuring to strengthen the Company fundamentals, and this has generated results.
The Great East Japan Earthquake affected the fiscal 2010 financial results, but sales, operating income, and ordinary income all exceeded the forecast for the year. For fiscal 2011, however, the procurement environment has suffered, the supply of energy is insufficient, and the market mood has deteriorated, which among other factors means that the affects from future environmental changes must be carefully monitored.
To respond to these environmental changes that have made conditions even more difficult, we must transform ourselves into a Company with even stronger fundamentals. Under these circumstances, we must accelerate strengthening and achieving the “strengthening of fundamentals” and “searching for a growth strategy” called for in the midterm business plan. We will work together as a group on such issues as marketing and cost competitiveness, strengthening product development capability, developing personnel and utilizing their abilities, and taking measures for the risks posed by natural disasters as part of our challenge to strengthen business fundamentals and achieve new growth.
We will enhance the essential company capabilities taking a long-term perspective to achieve continuous growth. We will also meet the expectations of customers, shareholders, and other stake holders. All of us in the Citizen Group have taken the challenge to become a Corporate Group that creates new value and achieves steady continuous growth by flexibly responding to changing environments and leveraging our miniaturization and precision technology and reliable quality.
