The watch with a name of "Citizen" was named in hopes of launching into the world and being widely loved by many citizens. All about production of Citizen began from this point. As we all wished, Citizen Watches are now loved by a lot of people, not only as a tool to know time, but also an item to express sense of value of a person who wears the watch. "Integration of techniques and beauty" is a new value produced by the blend of the newest technology and fine grace. Under this concept of Citizen Brand Watches we have produced various products which brighten our lives. On the other hand, we have started to look ahead to the future of watches, and to search for a new style as an information equipment. Our watch business continues to evolve for offering new values that everybody is looking for.

As the shift for a more advanced information society, information technology is of growing importance. The demand for ultraprecise technology having both capabilities of low-power consumption and high reliability is increasing in association with miniaturization and sophistication of communication devices. Our electronic devices department provides device products based on the elaborate technologies that we have inherited DNA of Citizen such as the microminiature and ultraprecise fabrication technique, and the quartz oscillator technique, to the various companies and equipments which support the information-oriented society. These skills are used in a lot of electronic devices in order to support our informational society. We aim to achieve ideal communication which our society expects by our three particular device fields; "crystal device" which provides key products in the personal computers and audiovisual apparatus in home electric appliances, "optical device" which provides chips and LED required for information terminals and lighting devices, and "LCD".

A variety of Citizen's products and technologies are utilized in the various scenes such as business scenes for high speed and reliability and daily life scenes for health and amenity. Our miniaturization, precision, and energy saving technologies from accumulation of expertise in watch are used in professional-quality printers and other electronic equipment for business use. We also work positively on creating a network between doctors and patients by providing our health care equipment business of universal design, which we early adopted, such as electronic thermometers and electronic manometers. Citizen will continue to be involved in people's works and everyday life, and we will keep offering solutions to support activities in society.

Using the know-how and techniques that we have acquired since we have developed equipment items for manufacturing watches by our unique machinery, we have developed and provided industrial equipments that are necessary for production by "chipping", "assembling" and "measuring". Our products including CNC (Computer Numeric Control) automatic lathes which process the parts with incredible speed and micron accuracy, dedicated assembling devices by applying the electronic components insertion devices and robot engineering, measuring instruments for parts inspection and accuracy measurement, and DC geared motors used in many kinds of devices, are active in manufacturing fields widely in Japan and all the world. We believe a chain of empathy that impressions in manufacturing products and then the manufactured products cause subsequent impressions will fertilize manufacturing industry. We call it "the impressive value" production, and it plays a key role in our business activities.

Citizen always challenges new business development. Taking full advantage of miniaturization and high-precision processing technologies, assembly technology, surface processing technology, and packaging technology to develop new products uniquely such as safety components for cars, precise control components for medical use and semiconductor equipments, and systems for amusement equipments. Furthermore, we work on jewelry such as marriage rings, and leisure services such as ice skating and bowling. Citizen will continue to expand our business widely and variously by responding to the needs of our society and the needs of the times, accurately.
